Ingredients

8 slices of day-old cinnamon raisin bread

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk (or your preferred milk)

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

1/4 cup raisins (additional or to taste)

Pinch of salt

Butter or cooking spray (for greasing)

Maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Arrange the Bread: Cut the cinnamon raisin bread slices in half and arrange them in the greased baking dish. Overlap them slightly for good coverage. Scatter any additional raisins on top of the bread slices.

Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Combine Wet and Bread: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the arranged bread in the baking dish. Ensure that all pieces are soaked. Press down gently to ensure the bread absorbs the egg mixture.

Chill (optional): For a richer flavor and texture, cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight). This allows the bread to thoroughly soak up the egg mixture.

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap (if used) and place the baking dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture is set.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm with maple syrup drizzled on top.

Enjoy: Gather your loved ones around, serve the baked French toast, and savor the delightful combination of cinnamon, raisins, and warm syrup!
