Ingredients

1 package (8 oz) of cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 package (2 sheets) of puff pastry, thawed

1 cup fresh blueberries (you can also use frozen, just thaw and drain)

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

1 tbsp lemon juice (for a hint of tanginess)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Make the cream cheese filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Mix until well combined and creamy. Set aside.

Prepare the puff pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets into rectangles. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.

Form the danish shape: Place the squares on the prepared baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, create a border about 1/2 inch inside the edges of each pastry square, being careful not to cut all the way through. Prick the inner section of the squares with a fork to prevent puffing.

Layer the filling: Spoon some of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each square, evenly spreading it within the border. Top with fresh blueberries and sprinkle lightly with ground cinnamon if using.

Brush the edges: Using the beaten egg, brush the borders of the pastries to give them a golden finish when baked.

Bake the danish: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.

Cool and serve: Let the danishes cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delicious Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish!
