Ingredients

½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup pecans, chopped (or halved)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ teaspoon sea salt

1 tablespoon bourbon (optional, for a richer flavor)

Instructions

Toast the Pecans: In a medium skillet over medium heat, add the chopped pecans. Toast them for about 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently until they turn golden and fragrant. Remove them from the heat and set aside.

Melt the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Make sure it doesn’t brown; you just want it to be completely melted.

Add Brown Sugar: Stir in the brown sugar into the melted butter and mix well. Cook the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

Incorporate Cream: Gradually pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Continue to cook the mixture for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Flavor it Up: Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract, sea salt, and bourbon (if using) until well combined.

Add Toasted Pecans: Finally, fold the toasted pecans into the sauce. Mix thoroughly to ensure the pecans are evenly distributed.

Cool and Serve: Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving over your favorite desserts like ice cream, pancakes, or waffles. The sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat gently before use.
