Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Stir in Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Prepare the Skillet: Grease a 12-inch cast-iron skillet or oven-safe pan with a little butter or cooking spray.

Spread the Dough: Pour the cookie dough into the skillet, spreading it out evenly to cover the bottom.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is slightly gooey.

Let it Cool: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Serve Warm: Cut into wedges and serve warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat!
