To achieve the perfect texture for your gnocchi, begin by bringing a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. The salt not only enhances the flavor of the gnocchi but also helps maintain the pasta's texture during cooking. Once the water is boiling, carefully add the gnocchi in batches to prevent overcrowding. If you add too many at once, they may stick together or cook unevenly.

Ingredients

1 pound (450g) store-bought gnocchi

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Fresh basil leaves, roughly chopped (about 1/2 cup)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Extra basil leaves for garnish

Optional: Red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

Cook the Gnocchi: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook according to package instructions (usually around 2-3 minutes) until they float to the surface. Once cooked, drain and set aside.

Prepare the Sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant but not browned.

Combine Tomatoes and Cream: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in the heavy cream. Add the teaspoon of sugar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and let cook for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Add the Gnocchi: Carefully add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet, tossing to coat them in the creamy tomato sauce.

Stir in Cheese and Basil: Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan cheese and half of the chopped basil, stirring until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning, adding red pepper flakes if desired.

Serve: Plate the creamy tomato basil gnocchi and garnish with additional fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of Parmesan on top. Enjoy your delightful pasta dish!
