8 oz (225 g) pasta of choice (linguine, fettuccine, or penne)

1 tablespoon olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon sugar (to balance acidity)

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a kick)

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta:

    - In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente (usually 8-10 minutes). Reserve ½ cup of pasta water before draining the pasta. Drain and set aside.

      Prepare the Sauce:

        - In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

          Add Tomatoes and Cream:

            - Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Then add the heavy cream, stirring until the sauce is well combined.

              Season the Sauce:

                - Mix in the sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let the sauce simmer for another 3-4 minutes, thickening slightly.

                  Combine Pasta and Sauce:

                    - Add the cooked pasta to the skillet with the creamy tomato sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, gradually stir in reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.

                      Finish with Fresh Basil and Cheese:
