Ingredients

6 ripe pears, peeled, cored, and sliced

1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup water or apple cider

Optional: 1/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins for added texture and flavor

Instructions

Begin by preparing your pears. Peel, core, and slice them evenly to ensure consistent cooking.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced pears, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and water (or apple cider). Stir gently to coat the pears evenly without breaking them.

If you’re adding dried cranberries or raisins, fold them into the mixture at this stage.

Transfer the pear mixture to the crockpot, spreading it out evenly.

Cover the crockpot with its lid and set it to low heat for 4-6 hours or high heat for 2-3 hours, depending on your desired level of tenderness. Stir occasionally to mix the flavors.

Once the compote is finished cooking, remove the lid and let it cool for a few minutes. If you prefer a smoother texture, use an immersion blender to puree it to your desired consistency.

Serve warm or at room temperature. This delightful compote pairs perfectly with breakfast favorites like oatmeal, yogurt, or pancakes, and can also be served as a dessert topping for ice cream or cakes.
