Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast

1 tablespoon sugar

1 ½ teaspoons salt

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

6 cloves garlic, minced

½ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Extra butter for brushing

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the instant yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, black pepper, and half the chopped parsley. Mix well and set aside.

Shape Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish, close together.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Add Toppings: Once the rolls have risen, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture, ensuring you get a bit of garlic and parsley on each roll. If using, sprinkle grated Parmesan on top.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.

Brush with Extra Butter: Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with additional melted butter, then sprinkle with the remaining parsley for extra flavor.

Serve: Let them cool for a few minutes before serving warm – perfect to accompany soups, salads, or as a delicious snack!
