Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/4 cup finely chopped fresh chives (or green onions)

3/4 cup buttermilk

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (for added flavor)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Cheese and Chives: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped chives until evenly distributed throughout the flour mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk and minced garlic. Stir this mixture into the dry ingredients just until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter (or a floured glass) to cut out biscuits. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each biscuit.

Brush with Butter: In a small bowl, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Brush the tops of the biscuits with the melted butter for an added golden finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top and cooked through.

Cool and Serve: Allow the biscuits to cool slightly on the baking sheet. Serve warm, ideally with extra butter or alongside your favorite soup or salad.
