Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 pound ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

2 cups marinara sauce

4 sub rolls

1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Olive oil for drizzling

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get ready for the meatballs.

Prepare Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, milk, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and basil. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Shape the Meatballs: Use your hands to form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. You should get around 16-20 meatballs depending on the size.

Brown the Meatballs: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Working in batches, add the meatballs and cook for 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally until browned on all sides.

Simmer in Sauce: Once browned, transfer the meatballs to a large saucepan, pour in the marinara sauce, and gently stir to coat. Simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Prepare the Subs: While the meatballs are simmering, slice the sub rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through. Place them on a baking sheet.

Assemble the Subs: For each sub, add 3-4 meatballs, spooning a generous amount of marinara sauce over them. Sprinkle a handful of shredded mozzarella on top of the meatballs.

Bake the Subs: Bake the assembled meatball subs in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Remove the subs from the oven and drizzle a little olive oil on top. Garnish with fresh basil if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!
