Ingredients

For the Crust and Topping:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup granulated sugar

½ cup brown sugar, packed

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp baking powder

¼ tsp salt

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

For the Filling:

1 cup Nutella (or any hazelnut spread)

½ cup chopped hazelnuts (optional)

1 tbsp milk (to soften Nutella, if needed)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang to easily lift the bars out later.

Make the Crust Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well until combined.

Add the Wet Ingredients: Pour the melted butter and vanilla extract into the dry mixture. Stir until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Incorporate the Oats: Gently fold in the old-fashioned rolled oats until fully integrated. The mixture will be crumbly.

Press the Crust: Take about ⅔ of the crumb mixture and evenly press it into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to create a solid crust layer. Reserve the remaining crumb mixture for topping.

Prepare the Nutella Filling: If your Nutella is too thick, gently warm it in the microwave for about 10 seconds or add a tablespoon of milk to soften it. Spread the Nutella evenly over the pressed crust in the pan.

Add Hazelnuts: If using, sprinkle chopped hazelnuts over the Nutella layer for extra crunch and flavor.

Top with Crumb Mixture: Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over the Nutella layer, covering it evenly.

Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the edges are set.

Cool and Cut: Remove from the oven and let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, lift the bars out using the parchment overhang and cut into squares or rectangles.

Serve: Enjoy these delicious Nutella crumb bars at room temperature or slightly warmed for an extra gooey treat!
