Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet)

1 cup black licorice (cut into strips for legs)

1 cup edible candy eyes

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cream the Butters and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).

Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients into Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Form the Cookies: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Shape the Cookies: Slightly flatten the dough balls with your palm.

Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.

Create the Spider Effects: Once out of the oven, let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.

Add Spider Details: While still warm, use the black licorice strips to form legs by placing 4 strips on each side of the cookie. Then, add two edible candy eyes on top of the cookie to complete the spooky look.

Cool Completely: Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Prep Time: 20 min | Total Time: 40 min | Servings: 24 cookies
