Ingredients

1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, washed and loosely packed

3/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 3-4 lemons)

1 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

4 cups water (divided into 3 cups cold water and 1 cup hot water)

Ice cubes

Lemon slices and extra basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Infuse the Basil: In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of hot water and the granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, creating a simple syrup. Add the basil leaves to the saucepan, cover, and let it steep for about 15-20 minutes. This will infuse the syrup with basil flavor.

Prepare Strawberries: While the basil is steeping, mash the sliced strawberries in a bowl using a fork or potato masher. For a smoother texture, you could blend them into a puree. Set aside.

Mix the Lemonade: After the basil syrup has cooled, strain it into a large pitcher to remove the basil leaves. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and the remaining 3 cups of cold water to the pitcher. Stir well to combine.

Combine Ingredients: Add the mashed strawberries (or strawberry puree) to the pitcher. Stir again to ensure everything is well mixed. Taste the lemonade; if you desire more sweetness, you can add a bit more sugar or more strawberry puree.

Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the strawberry basil lemonade for at least 30 minutes to chill. When ready to serve, pour the lemonade over ice in glasses. Garnish with lemon slices and sprigs of fresh basil for an inviting presentation.

Enjoy: Relish the refreshing blend of sweet strawberries, aromatic basil, and zesty lemon in every sip!
