8 oz spaghetti or linguine

2 cups broccoli florets

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup olive oil

1 medium lemon (zest and juice)

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the spaghetti or linguine according to package instructions until al dente. In the last 3-4 minutes of cooking time, add the broccoli florets to the pot. Drain both the pasta and broccoli, reserving 1 cup of the pasta water.

    Sauté the Garlic: In a large skillet over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking until the garlic is fragrant and slightly golden (about 1-2 minutes). Be careful not to burn the garlic.

      Combine Ingredients: Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet. Toss to combine with the garlic oil. Gradually stir in the reserved pasta water, lemon juice, and lemon zest, mixing until everything is evenly coated.

        Add Cheese and Season: Sprinkle in the grated Parmesan cheese and stir until melted and combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you prefer a saucier pasta, adjust the consistency with additional reserved pasta water.

          Serve: Plate the pasta, garnishing with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of extra Parmesan cheese. Serve immediately with additional lemon wedges on the side for an extra zesty kick.
